How does Scripture say to study the Scriptures?

Reading Time: 9 minutes

Isaiah 28:9
“Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those [just] weaned from milk? Those [just] drawn from the breasts?

Luke 21:15
“for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.

Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me.

1 Timothy 4:12-16
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.
15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.
16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

2 Timothy 2:20-26
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.
24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,
26 and [that] they may come to their senses [and] [escape] the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to [do] his will.

Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me.

2 Timothy 3:10-15
But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance,
11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra–what persecutions I endured. And out of [them] all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned [them,]
15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,** that** the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 4:2-5
Preach the word! Be ready in season [and] out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, [because] they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
4 and they will turn [their] ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Malachi 3:16-18
Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, And the LORD listened and heard [them;] So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the LORD And who meditate on His name.
17 “They shall be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “On the day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them As a man spares his own son who serves him.”
18 Then you shall again discern Between the righteous and the wicked, Between one who serves God And one who does not serve Him.

What is God’s will?

Psalms 143:9-12
9 Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; In You I take shelter.
10 Teach me to do Your will, For You [are] my God; Your Spirit [is] good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.
11 Revive me, O LORD, for Your name’s sake! For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.
12 In Your mercy cut off my enemies, And destroy all those who afflict my soul; For I [am] Your servant.

What is His name? What is his Son’s name?
Jeremiah 33:2-3
2 “Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it to establish it (the LORD [is] His name):
3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

John 3:34
34 “For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.

Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven

Deuteronomy 6:1-9
“Now this [is] the commandment, [and these are] the statutes and judgments which the LORD your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe [them] in the land which you are crossing over to possess,
2 “that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.
3 “Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe [it,] that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you–‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’
4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD [is] one!
5 “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
7 “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
8 “You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
9 “You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

What is evil? What is Good? What is Peace? How do I pursue it?

Psalms 34:10-16
The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good [thing.]
11 Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Who [is] the man [who] desires life, And loves [many] days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD [are] on the righteous, And His ears [are open] to their cry.
16 The face of the LORD [is] against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

Psalms 32:8-11
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.
9 Do not be like the horse [or] like the mule, [Which] have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.
10 Many sorrows [shall be] to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him.
11 Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all [you] upright in heart!

Matthew 18:2-5
Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them,
3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 “Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.

Mark 10:14-15
14 But when Jesus saw [it,] He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

Ephesians 6:4
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

1 John 3:1-3
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

John 6:63
63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and [they] are life.

What does scripture say “”the way”” is, “the truth” is, and what “life” is?

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Jeremiah 3:22
“Return, you backsliding children, [And] I will heal your backslidings.” “Indeed we do come to You, For You are the LORD our God.

“As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the LORD.’
31 “So they come to you as people do, they sit before you [as] My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, [but] their hearts pursue their [own] gain.
32 “Indeed you [are] to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them.
33 “And when this comes to pass–surely it will come–then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

John 1:10-13
He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Philippians 2:14-16
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing,
15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

1 John 4:4-6
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak [as] of the world, and the world hears them.
6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

What are the straight ways of the Lord?

Acts 13:10
and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, [you] son of the devil, [you] enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

Where do we get Wisdom from?

Ecclesiastes 7:12
12 For wisdom [is] a defense [as] money [is] a defense, But the excellence of knowledge [is that] wisdom gives life to those who have it.

Read Hosea 4

Hosea 4:6-10 (NKJV)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
7 “The more they increased, The more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.
8 They eat up the sin of My people; They set their heart on their iniquity.
9 And it shall be: like people, like priest. So I will punish them for their ways, And reward them for their deeds.
10 For they shall eat, but not have enough; They shall commit harlotry, but not increase; Because they have ceased obeying the LORD.

The word of our God stands forever!

Isaiah 40:4-8
4 Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough places smooth;
5 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see [it] together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
6 The voice said, “Cry out!” And he said, “What shall I cry?” “All flesh [is] grass, And all its loveliness [is] like the flower of the field.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people [are] grass.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”
