What is the Doctrine of Christ?

Reading Time: 6 minutes

2 John 1:9-10
Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;

What is the Doctrine of Christ?

John 7:14-17
Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
15 And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”
16 Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me.
17 “If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or [whether] I speak on My own [authority.]

John 8:26-28
“I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.”
27 They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.
28 Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am [He,] and [that] I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

John 12:48-50
“He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him–the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
49 “For I have not spoken on My own [authority;] but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.
50 “And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”

Proverbs 6:23
For the commandment [is] a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction [are] the way of life,

John 14:10, 24, 31
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own [authority;] but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
24 “He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
31 “But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

What are the Fathers Words?

Proverbs 4:1-2
Hear, [my] children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.

Deuteronomy 32:1-2
Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew, As raindrops on the tender herb, And as showers on the grass.

Deuteronomy 32:46-47
and he said to them: “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe– all the words of this law. “For it [is] not a futile thing for you, because it [is] your life, and by this word you shall prolong [your] days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”

John 6:63
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and [they] are life.

Deuteronomy 18:15, 18-19

18 ‘I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.
19 ‘And it shall be [that] whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require [it] of him.

Matthew 17:5 5
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”

Acts 3:22-23
For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. ‘And it shall be [that] every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’

not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

For to be carnally minded [is] death, but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace. Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, [even] the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,
4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,
5 useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a [means of] gain. From such withdraw yourself.

Hebrews 6:1-2
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary [principles] of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Isaiah 28:9-10
“Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those [just] weaned from milk? Those [just] drawn from the breasts? For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.”

40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”

18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
